Well done to the ten Bluefin swimmers attending the Tuam SC Meet last Sunday 24th February – Anthony Boyle, Aisling Callagy, Sara Maia Martins, Hannah Durkan, Cian Cloonan, Patrick Lenehan, Sarah Gunning, Leah Connaughton, Isolde Hannon and Sandra Bedynek. Everyone swam brilliantly despite the weather forecasting the ‘Beast from the East!
A red alert status issued by Bluefin swimmers let everyone know they were going to take the pool by storm… and what an accurate forecast! Kicking off was Cian Cloonan in his debut in the 400m freestyle, achieving a phenomenal Division 2 time and bronze medal. The team continued with gusto when both Leah Connaughton (100m breaststroke) and Sarah Gunning (100m backstroke) spectacularly attained their first ever A-times. These fantastic swims from the girls caused a flurry of conditions, where Patrick Lenehan accomplished not one, but two A-times in 100m breaststroke and backstroke! Reaching the pinnacle of this storm, Sandra Bedynek breezed through to get her A-time in 100m backstroke. Just when we thought the storm was finally abating after the shower of A-times, and with the pressure dropping rapidly… Isolde Hannon blustered through the 100m butterfly and was awarded a silver medal, and Hannah Durkan romped home with a new A time in the same event – and all after swimming her maiden voyage in the 400m Free!
Our ten wonderful athletes competed in 28 events and were saturated in a total of 22 rip-roaring PB’s.
Sincere appreciation to the coaches, parents and supporters who attended and volunteered for time-keeping duties. Also many thanks to Tuam Swimming Club for a fantastic, fun and very efficient gala!
