For the final episode of the Stay in, Stay Well Series, Swim Ireland are delighted to welcome Joanne O’Riordan, an activist for people with disabilities, columnist for the Irish Times and an inspirational speaker.
Joanne O’Riordan was born with a rare disability called Total Amelia, meaning that she has no limbs. An activist for people with disabilities, Joanne was invited to speak at the United Nations Girls in ICT Unit when she was just 16 years old. Joanne was honoured with a Young Person of the Year Award in 2012 and just 3 years later, was honoured with a JCI Top Outstanding Young Person of the World Award.
Having graduated from UCC with a degree in Criminology Joanne has moved in to sports journalism and currently writes for the Irish Times, primarily covering women in sport and supporting the 20×20 initiative.
