A massive well done to Ethan Lourens and Mark Cormican who represented Bluefin Swim Team at the David McCullagh International Swim Meet last weekend in Bangor.
The McCullagh International is a key competition on the swimming calendar and provides a fantastic opportunity for many athletes to race in a major long course competition for the first time in 2025.
Some of Ireland’s top swimmers were in action with Paris Olympians Danielle Hill, Ellen Walshe, Tom Fannon and Grace Davison all competing. They were joined by British Olympic Medallists Duncan Scott and Jack McMillan as a strong contingent from Britain also took to the blocks.
Day 1 saw Mark compete in the 50 backstroke where he advanced to the evening finals and achieved a personal best time.
On day 2, Ethan competed in the 50 fly while Mark competed in the 400 Individual Medley and 100 backstroke, advancing to the evening finals and securing another personal best long course time in the backstroke event.
Day 3 consisted of Ethan swimming in both the 200 freestyle and 100 fly races, and Mark in the 200 backstroke. Mark advanced from the morning session to the A final in the evening and finished 5th overall.
Well done boys! We are all so proud of you! A big shout out to our amazing Bluefin coaches for preparing the boys for this event and to all the officials and volunteers who ensured the smooth running of the event.
